Zippered Pouch

I haven't sewn anything in a couple of weeks, and today I felt like doing a small, but fun project. This zippered pouch may look difficult, but it's actually very easy to make. I love how this one turned out--it's so pretty! This project uses pre-quilted fabric, but if you would rather save your money and make your own quilted fabric I completely understand. The fabric I used for this pouch was gifted to me, and therefore, something I already had. My only regret with this project is not running to the store to get another zipper to make more!

Materials:

  • Basic sewing materials

  • Pre-quilted fabric (if you don't want to buy it, you could also make some!)

  • Bias tape (about a 4-inch long piece)

  • Zipper (7 inches)

Instructions:

Cut 2 fabric pieces (9x8).

After the fabric pieces have been cut, place them together (inside out). Clip them in place and, using a ruler, measure a 1.5x1.5 inch square at each of the bottom corners. Trace and cut.

After the bottom corners have been cut, sew the bottom and sides of the bag. Pull corner holes out, flatten, and use clips to hold them in place. Sew.

After this, there is just one more step- sew the zipper on! There should be a little extra room at the end for the bias tape loop. After you've finished sewing the zipper on, poke the looped bias tape piece through the hole and sew in place. Enjoy your finished zippered pouch!
