Valentine Crochet Hearts

Crochet hearts two ways for Valentine's day! This post features a pattern for a small heart, that can be used as an applique or made into a bookmark; and a pattern for a larger, lacey heart that can be used as a coaster or part of a bigger project.

Materials:

For both of these patterns, I used a 5 mm crochet hook, and Big Twist brand cotton/polyester blend.

Heart 1: The Applique

Make a magic circle.

Chain 2.

Treble crochet 2, then double crochet 3, all into the magic circle.

Chain 1.

Treble crochet 1 into the magic circle.

Chain 1.

Double crochet 3, then treble crochet 3, into the magic circle as before.

Chain 2.

Slip stitch into the magic circle.

Chain 1.

Cut yarn, leaving the tail long.

Pull tail through. Close magic ring tight.

To finish, pull the tail to form a knot.

At this point, you can weave in your ends to finish the applique, or you can leave them long for a cute heart bookmark.
