Granny Square Fingerless Gloves

Granny squares are by far one of my favorite things to crochet, and different color combinations can really make the squares pop. That being said, when I find a way to incorporate them into a project like this one, I have to make it!

Making the Granny Squares

You will need a 3.5 mm hook and light to medium weight yarn for this project.

Chain 4 and connect with a slip stitch to form a ring. Chain 3; this will count as your first double crochet (DC). DC 2 more into center, then chain 2, DC 3, chain 2, DC 3, chain 2, DC 3, chain 2, and connect with a slip stitch. Cut and tie off.

Start the second row in the beginning of any corner. Chain 3, 2 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, and connect. Cut and tie off.

Start the third row in the beginning of any corner. Chain 3, 2 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, and connect. Cut and tie off.

Start the fourth row in the beginning of any corner. Chain 3, 2 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, 3 DC, 3 DC, and connect. Cut and tie off.

Repeat these steps until you've made 4 granny squares total.

Additional Stitching and Sewing

Start in a corner stitch of your granny square and begin to half double crochet (HDC) along the bottom. Stop when bottom row is complete, after about 15 or 16 stitches. Flip project and begin another row. Crochet 5 rows HDC total, then cut and tie off. Do this for all four of your granny squares.

Now HDC rows along the sides of a granny square. Crochet 2 rows HDC total, then cut and tie off. Do this for each side of the granny square. Only do this for two of the granny squares.

Place a wide granny square against a narrow one, wrong sides facing out. Use a crochet needle and yarn to stitch both sides together. Don't forget to leave a hole where your thumb will go through! Do the same thing for the other glove, making sure to put the thumb hole on the opposite side.

Your fingerless gloves should now be complete. If you wanted to, you could easily crochet little finger spaces and sew them on to make the gloves warmer. I hope this crochet tutorial was helpful and that you enjoyed this project!
