Here is a link for the full video tutorial of each of the basic stitches.
Below you will find short descriptions of the basic stitches to follow. I would also recommend getting a beginner crochet book, as that will have have step-by-step pictures and instructions as well.
Slip Knot
To make a slip knot, tuck the tail of the yarn behind, making a loop. Then take part of the yarn strand and pull it through the loop. Pull tight to close the knot.
Chain Stitch (ch)
For a chain stitch, bring yarn over your hook, then pull through.
Slip Stitch (sl st)
For a slip stitch, simply insert your hook into the next stitch and pull the yarn through both the stitch and what's on your hook.
Single Crochet (sc)
For a single crochet, put your hook through the next stitch and pull the yarn through. Then yarn over and pull through both.
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
For a half double crochet, bring yarn over your hook, then insert into the next stitch. Pull yarn through the stitch, then yarn over and pull through all three loops.
Double Crochet (dc)
To do a double crochet, yarn over, insert into the next stitch, and pull yarn through stitch. Then yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over again, and pull through the remaining two loops.
Triple Crochet (tr)
To do a triple crochet, yarn over the hook twice, insert hook in next stitch, and pull yarn through. Yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, and pull through the last two loops.
Magic Circle/Ring
There are many different ways to make a magic circle. I like to start by wrapping the yarn around my hand to form an X. Then I insert my hook under the first strand of yarn (the tail) and hook onto the second strand. Pull the second strand through and twist. Gently remove from hand and quickly chain one stitch to secure.
