I recently finished crocheting a Pikachu from the Pikachu Crochet Kit by Sabrina Somers. For those unfamiliar with the kit, it includes an instruction book with patterns for 5 different Pokémon and materials needed to complete a crochet Pikachu: yellow yarn, black yarn, brown yarn, 2.5 mm hook, red felt, black felt, white felt, crochet needle, and fabric glue. This project was challenging in some ways, but ultimately very rewarding. If you are looking for a crochet kit, this is a high-quality one that would be great for any Pokémon fan!

I consider myself a fairly experienced crocheter, however this was the first amigurumi (Japanese-style, small, stuffed creature) I've ever made following only written instructions. I'm more of a visual learner, so I found myself struggling at certain points in the process of crocheting this Pikachu.
Some of the biggest things I struggled with were:
Cotton yarn tangling and separating often (I had to take a two-day break after one particular incident)
Tiny hook (2.5 mm) (this is more of a personal thing, my go-to is 5mm or bigger)
ALL THE MAGIC CIRCLES (Although I know how to make magic circles, they never get any easier)
While I believe this kit would be fine for a beginner, I would not recommend starting with the Pikachu design. The book that is included in the kit has some easier Pokémon to crochet that would be better suited to beginners (Jigglypuff, for example). At the start of the instruction book, there is an introductory section where the stitches and techniques used are described in detail. This would be a great help to anyone who is a beginner or hasn't crocheted amigurumi before. I even had to reference it a couple of times for stitches I hadn't used in a while!
Aside from the occasional setbacks I had, I was very happy with how my crochet Pikachu turned out! He's so cute! The kit included more than enough materials to make it, so I never had to worry about running out of yarn. The instructions were fairly detailed, which was helpful as well. The only part I really had to improvise on was the mouth, but that wasn't difficult.
My favorite part was definitely putting everything together at the end. Seeing all parts of the Pikachu come together and take form was so satisfying! While I was a little nervous my Pikachu might have a lopsided face, it ended up looking great! Pro tip: it helps if you fasten a stitch marker on the top-center of the face and go from there.

I enjoyed crocheting my Pikachu from the kit by Sabrina Somers. This Pikachu Crochet Kit is a high-quality crochet kit that has some flaws, but is a great kit overall. I would recommend it to beginners, but with the warning that they probably shouldn't start with Pikachu right away!
