I actually wanted to make this pattern last December, but I was so busy crocheting Christmas gifts for family that I ran out of time! I'm happy I found the time to make these this year, they're so pretty. I have a bunch of extra ball ornaments laying around, and I feel like this pattern is a great way to make them more festive (and hide some scratches). I stick with traditional Christmas/wintry colors while making these, but feel free to choose whatever colors you want (or have on hand).
Materials:
Christmas ball ornaments
Medium weight yarn (red, green, white, etc.)
4 mm crochet hook
Crochet needle
Scissors
Instructions:
Make a slipknot. Chain 4. Slip stitch.
Chain 2. Double crochet (DC) 11. Slip stitch.
Chain 2. DC 2 in each stitch. Chain 1 in between. Slip stitch at the end.
Chain 3. Skip to the next gap, then DC 3. Chain 1. DC 3. Chain 1. Continue pattern. Slip stitch.
Chain 1. Single crochet (SC) in each stitch. Leave 3-4 stitches at the end, un-single crocheted. Chain 1, cut, and knot to finish.
Repeat steps 1-4 to make a second round.
**Color switching- If you want to switch colors every round like I did, you can, just make sure you know how you're going to make your color switches. Some people simply knot them together (like I do), while others simply finish the color completely and knot the new one on. Choose whichever technique works best for you!
You can choose to weave in loose yarn ends or leave them out. I wove mine into the back.
After both of your rounds are finished, take your needle and start stitching them together around the edges. When you have a little over half of it stitched up, pop your ball ornament into the pocket. Continue stitching until the hole is completely closed. Knot securely, trim the yarn end, and poke it below the pattern so it won't show!
