Bowl and Jar Covers

If you have a little extra fabric laying around, bowl covers are a quick and easy project! This tactic works for mason jar covers too. My house is old, so if I don't use my KitchenAid mixer every week, the bowl will get a little dusty. I plan on making a couple more covers for it this week because I also will be using them for bread. I hope you get as much use out of this pattern as I will!

Place your bowl (or container of choice) face-down on top of the wrong side of the fabric. Using an acrylic ruler, mark 2 inches out from the edges of the bowl. Do this all the way around, until you can connect your marks to make a circle. Cut fabric.

Once your fabric is cut, you can begin to put in your elastic. I like to stitch the elastic in place, then sew the edges into a tube around it (folding the raw edges in). Another option would be to sew the tube first, then thread the elastic through afterwards. I would start with at least 2-3 ft. of elastic. Once you've sewn your tube and threaded the elastic through, pull the elastic to see how tight your cover will be. Cut the elastic when you reach the desired tension and sew in place.
