I've been wanting to try my hand at making bagels for a while, but have been kind of intimidated by them--until now.
This whole recipe was a "trust the process" experience. Over all, I think boiling the bagels was the scariest moment for me. I kept thinking they were going to disintegrate or something equally as terrifying. Thankfully the process went smoothly, and I ended up with some delicious bagels as a result. Hopefully you enjoy this recipe as much as I did!
Ingredients:
1 cup warm water
3 and 1/2 cups flour
2 Tb sugar
1 tsp salt
2 and 1/2 tsp dry yeast
About 1 cup blueberries
Instructions:
Add water, flour, sugar, salt, yeast, and berries to bread machine and set on dough setting.
Once this is done, place dough on floured surface and let rest for 10 minutes.
Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil. Stir 2 Tb of sugar into the water.
When the dough has finished its first rest, separate into 9 equal pieces and use a finger to poke a hole in the middle of each one.
Let the dough rest for another 10 minutes. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Boil bagels in batches of two or three, 1 minute on each side. Sprinkle cornmeal on a baking sheet and transfer bagels onto the sheet after boiling.
Sprinkle bagels with poppy seeds, if desired. Once all bagels have been boiled, bake at 375 for 22-28 minutes.
Enjoy!
