If you're like me and switch out your pillowcases more often than others, then this is a great project for you! Pillowcases are up there with placemats in terms of how easy they are to sew. It can be fun to find different patterns to work with, creating unique pillowcases for everyday use.
Start by cutting your material. I found that the easiest way to do this was to place an already-made pillowcase on top and cut around. Cut two pieces of the same size, making sure to leave 1.5 inches extra on three sides and 4 inches on the remaining end (see illustration below for more guidance).
Place your two identical fabric pieces together with the wrong sides facing out. Fold top back, iron and pin in place. Sew in the directions marked on the image below, starting with the long sides. On the final end that is folded over, make sure you are only sewing the single layer, not all layers of the pillowcase. Otherwise, you may end up accidently sewing your pillowcase shut!
If you have enough material left over, make a matching pillowcase for a set of two! I like to do smaller projects like this if I feel like sewing, but only have time to put an hour or two into it.
